Moon Phase: The definition of “Moon Phase” an important term for the world of watches. It is used to describe the phases of the Moon, which are the New Moon, Full Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. The colors and forms in the design of the sophisticated engineered Moonphase watches that follow the lunar cycle bear references to the gravitational force of the satellite.

Timekeeping was born out of human’s desire to make sense of the movement of the sun, the moon and the constellations. While the sun’s movement dictates days and seasons, the lunar cycle describes “a month”, completing 29.5 days from new moon to full moon.

Moon phase defined by mainly four phases as New Moon, Full Moon, First Quarter, and Last Quarte, is the lighted area of the moon that is visible as it travels around the earth. Though the phases of the Moon were tracked thousands of years ago, the moonphase was commonly found in the more complicated pocket watches in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

A moonphase watch shows the current phase of the moon as you see it in the sky. The phases of the moon are displayed in a miniature version inside the watch, at an aperture on the dial, and the passage of time is presented in a graphical representation, as opposed to numbers. Behind the dial of a typical moonphase watch is a disc with two identical moons on it. Behind the dial of a typical moonphase watch is a disc with two identical moons on it. This disc rotates one complete cycle every twenty-nine and a half days.
